Analog or IP systems

Analog or IP systems

Analog or IP, what will be better for your object? This question is actual for everybody who would like to install the system of video surveillance. Let’s look through it step by step. The analogue system has a few advantages. The analogue systems are well known, relevant and cheap. That is why they are suitable for small objects. Modern IP systems, by-turn,   exceeds analogue because of high quality of signal, more flexibility in review, processing and keeping of video. The object on which the security systems has not installed previously is perfect for IP-video surveillance as far as video surveillance on such object is only one from many systems that use net infrastructure. It was proven, that using cables for IP-video surveillance instead of analogue system allow saving 30% of costs. If the full change from analogue system on IP is made the saving is not so significant. It is necessary to point out that analogue and IP are not the only options as far as there are hybrid systems that allows combine high quality of IP for some parts of the object and cheep analogue systems for insignificant parts of the object.

Nowadays net video surveillance predetermines future complex systems of security. Digital format allows implementing of different applications and processing of received data for security as well as for complex analyses of events, collection of information for marketing investigations, control and optimization of working process even on small objects. Recently IP video surveillance was suitable only on big scope systems but today the situation has changed. The value of IP cameras gradually go down to analogue cameras and general costs on program technical support of services for IP systems gradually go to the value of quality analogue or hybrid video registers. The installation of IP video registers could be more advantages in case it is necessary to change configuration or relocate a system: it is much easier to move IP system and equipment for it from one object to another, also there are no necessity in kilometers of wires installation.

From practical point of view IP system has a lot of advantages:

  • The quality of picture (using the megapixel matrixes with progressive  scan)
  • Use of special program software that allows to have a deep video analytics (accounting of the visitors quantity, face detection, sending of alarming e-mails, identification of numbers, integration with POS etc.)
  • Possibility of video flows filter through the safe internet connection.
  • Scalability (easy to add new cameras to the exists system)
  • Less costs on installation (this item is actual for the systems with more than 30 cameras or under the growth of system on already made net infrastructure
  • The clients which have already made the developed net infrastructure (has branches, offices, objects in different places) will be more interested in IP solutions than in analogue because of money saving, flexibility in management and wider functionality.

Today megapixels cameras start to compete in price with highly quality analogue cameras thanks for the fact that for same security level on the object there needed much less quantity of megapixels HD cameras than under the analogue system. A few years ago IP cameras were only on strategically important objects. Today such cameras are available for sale, production objects, and education and construction industry. IP video surveillance is essential development of security video surveillance. But the systems with high resolution only start to come to the security systems market. The future is in IP systems. Their use will be caused by clients’ wish to have more quality picture, development of video keeping systems and increase in channels capacity of signal transmission.
